Friday Pokemon Announcements – Pokemon Center Plush + Monthly Pair Pikachu + Pokemon With You + TCG

I’m still alive!

I have a small backlog of Pokemon Center reports and UFO catcher releases to post, but I will try my best to get those up over the next week.

There were no announcements from Friday the 13th, but Friday the 20th made up for it, kind of.

First, new Pokemon Center exclusive plush! This latest batch of plush includes Psyduck, Magearna, Poliwhirl, Jigglypuff, and Ampharos. Psyduck will be released first on May 28th while the rest of the plush in this batch will go on sale from June 4th. All plush will retail for 1,296 yen, except for Magearna which will be 2,160 yen.

June 4th will also bring us brand new Pokemon With You charms. This second batch in the charm series will feature Ash’s Greninja, Charizard, Jirachi, Lucario, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, and Sylveon, and each charm will sell for 270 yen.

As usual, along with the release of June’s Monthly Pair Pikachu this past Saturday (post coming soon!), we received the announcement for July’s Monthly Pair. This pair of Pikachu are ready for a fun time at the beach and will go on sale June 18th for the usual price of 2,808 yen.

Two new Break expansion packs (Explosive Fighter & Cruel Traitor) will go on sale from June 17th. These two sets include the first ever Volcanion card, an appearance by Shiny Mega Gardevoir and Magearna, Break versions of Xerneas and Yveltal, and a new dual-type card mechanic.

Each individual pack contains 5 random cards and retail price is 162 yen.

Starting from June 18th, buy 2 boxes of cards from either of the new expansion sets from a certified Pokemon Card Gym to receive 1 Premium Professor Sycamore card, while supplies last.

Not coincidentally coinciding with the new expansion pack releases, card sleeves will also go on sale from June 18th. There will be four Pokemon Center exclusive designs, all half decks containing 32 sleeves per pack, and retailing for about 390 yen per pack.

The four designs will be: Shiny Mega Gardevoir, Fossils, Dual Type Mega Steelix, and Fluff Overload with Meowth, Swablu, Mareep, and Whimsicott.

Last and certainly not least, and quite possibly the best news I’ve heard in a long time, a third part to the very popular All-Star series by Sanei has been announced for July 16th and features a wide variety of plush, similar to the original All-Star collection that came out near the end of 2015.

The third set of All-Star plush will include 15 plush in total.

Of course the plush I am most excited for is…Minccino!!! The Pokemon that got me back into the Pokemon fandom and my original favorite number 1 collection Pokemon. It’s been so long since Minccino had an official plush. I’m sad I won’t in Japan for the release so I won’t be able to hand pick a Chillarm for myself, but I already have 2 pre-ordered and I can’t wait to add them to my collection!

Pokemon Center Report – Monthly Pair Pikachu + Magearna + Volcanion + Mega Gardevoir + EX/M/Break

I love the Mega Tokyo Pokemon Center, but I like experiencing release days at other Pokemon Centers every once in a while, so I was really excited when I realized there would be a special release Saturday while I was visiting Sapporo.

I will go into more detail on the actual Sapporo Center in another post, but in short, the staff are all friendly and while small, the Center had all of the newer items, although not as much older stuff as I was expecting/hoping for.

With the summer movie only a few months away (it usually comes out mid July), the Pokemon Center is wasting no time in building hype via merchandise. Out of the four releases for Saturday, two were movie related.

First up, the two Pokemon Center exclusive plush! Volcanion

and shiny Mega Gardevoir. Gardevoir is basically identical to the previously released Mega Gardevoir, with the main difference being color.

Arriving at the Pokemon Center on Saturday not really being a Volcanion fan, I left feeling the opposite. Maybe it’s just the plush, but his face is really adorable! He looks like a huge cat with a donut on his back. His softness and size make him well worth the price tag.

There was also a series of every day use items with artwork featuring either Magearna, the new pink princess, or Volcanion and his mega evolution minions. There were notebooks, a sticker sheet, clearfiles

Mini towels, handkerchiefs

And t-shirts!

Unfortunately, the t-shirts only came in children’s sizes, which is a shame as I feel like big “kids” might have appreciated shirts with these designs in their sizes as well.

Along with the movie merch, the newest Monthly Pair Pikachu plushies also came out on Saturday!

Similar to the Monthly Pikachu for last year, the May Pikachus for this year also have a Children’s Day theme with the carp flag and hat. Unlike last year’s design, however, this one was apparently stuffed with bricks (I guess so the carp stands up under the weight of two Pikachus?) It’s definitely cute, but there was still plenty of Pikachus when I visited the Mega Tokyo Center today, and I don’t see them selling out any time soon.

Last but not least, a new expansion pack for the card game!

The Champion set, called “Ex M Break” contains previously released cards, but all of them are shiny/holos! 1 pack contains 10 cards and costs 500 yen after tax.

To help promote the new release, this Jirachi card campaign also started on Saturday; to get Jirachi, simply buy 10 packs of cards (or 1 box worth).

This Blastoise Mega Battle Special Pack also came out on Saturday. The set contains 1 Blastoise EX card, 1 pack of Ex M Break cards, and 2 packs of The Awakening Psychic King cards, and retails for 972 yen after tax.

Until next time!

Friday Pokemon Announcements – New Plush + Movie Merchandise + Premium Champion + Its’Demo: The Return of the Return

After last week’s complete disappointment of no news at all, we were graced with some goodies earlier today.

First up, surprise plush! There originally was nothing planned for this weekend, but now there is. These four plush (Clefairy, Eevee, Growlithe, and Lapras) will be exclusively sold at all Pokemon Centers and Stores across Japan starting April 2nd. Lapras has a shelf price of 2,160 yen while the other three are the normal sized price of 1,296 yen.

Next up, Monthly Pikachu! Although as usual not a real surprise, it’s still worth mentioning.

The May design is all about Children’s Day, similar to last year’s Monthly Chu, and goes on sale April 16th, with a shelf price of 2,808 yen.

In TCG news, a new expansion set, titled “Premium Champion Pack (EX x M x Break)” will go on sale April 16th. This set will feature re-releases of popular cards, all in holo form. Unlike most expansion sets, each pack will have 10 cards (not 5) and will retail for 500 yen each.

Starting April 16th, buy a full box of Premium Champion Packs (10 packs) at a certified Pokemon Card Gym (including the Pokemon Center) in Japan to receive one of these Premium Jirachi cards – while supplies last.
